What Makes an Uptown Dallas Wedding Different From a Ranch Wedding?
We wrote in our Dallas and Fort Worth coordination guide that a ranch wedding outside Fort Worth and a luxury ballroom reception in Uptown are different jobs. In Uptown the hotel already has a kitchen, power and restrooms, and no one orders a tent. Our time goes to the guest list, the floor plan and who walks in when.
Pick the room first, because a ballroom does not stretch. Linens, flowers and lighting come next. Then comes the choice couples rarely see coming, which is how close the dance floor sits to the head table.
How Big Is a Wedding Planned Around Uptown Hotel Rooms?
Your guest count picks the room, so here are the hotels’ own numbers. In its Crescent Ballroom and Salons, Hotel Crescent Court lists 200 guests for a seated dinner and 250 for a reception. Marriott Dallas Uptown lists 600 for the 6,000-square-foot Katy Ballroom. The Ritz-Carlton, Dallas lists 980 for its largest space.
A dinner for 150 nearly fills the Crescent Ballroom. In a room built for 600, those same 150 look sparse unless lighting and layout carry the space, and we raise that at the first walkthrough.

These figures measure different things. Crescent Court separates a seated dinner from a standing reception. Marriott and The Ritz-Carlton print a single capacity without a room setup, and a seated dinner with a dance floor holds fewer than that. Ask each hotel for its seated count before you tour.

The Gillespie wedding was a black-tie weekend at The Dewberry Hotel in Charleston, with a rooftop welcome reception and a candlelit seated dinner, and our team on the floor through the last dance.
